Service, Support and Advocacy for Maryland Principals
The Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals is a professional association that has been in existence since 1946.
Membership in MAESP over the last 80 years has varied from 100 members in 1947 to our highest of 900 members in 2016.
Currently MAESP includes over 755 members in 24 local Maryland school systems . Our membership includes principals, assistant principals, aspiring leaders and central office personnel who support school leaders. MAESP is a state affiliate of the National Association Of Elementary School Principals or NAESP. Your membership payment provides you with joint membership in MAESP and NAESP.

- In 1946 we were called the Maryland Department of Elementary School Principals
- From 1976 - 1994 we were known as MAESA, the Maryland Association of Elementary School Administrators
- In 1994 we officially became MAESP
- Our first president, in 1946 was Anna Rose
- Current Maryland State Superintendent, Dr. Carey Wright, was an active member of MAESA/MAESP in the 1980's and 90's serving as the Howard County rep, the Public Relations committee chair, the Legislative committee chair, and as Secretary
